What is Nitinol Alloy and Application

What is Nitinol?

The tensile strength of Nitinol can reach 1000 MPa. That is to say, it takes more than 100 dry grams of force per square millimeter to break it, which is stronger than ordinary steel, and also has good "memory" performance and corrosion resistance.


Nitinol contains 50% nickel and 50% titanium, that is, the components of nickel and titanium are equally divided, each accounting for half. The temperature range of its shape memory can be adjusted by controlling the composition. In general, the higher the nickel content of Nitinol, the lower the operating temperature. When the nickel content is 55% and the titanium content is 45%, the memory alloy can work at room temperature.


Nitinol application:

People have used this feature of memory alloys to make pearl necklaces and bracelets made of memory alloy wires, as well as bras woven with memory alloy wires. When these decorations and health care products are worn on the body, they will restore their original curvature and stiffness under the action of human body temperature, thus playing a role in decoration and health care. In addition, the orthodontic wire can also be made of Nitinol alloy, which can use the temperature of the human mouth to correct the deformed teeth.
